hi WJSMYTH I am a new member of Rootschat and was brousing thought Rootschat, when the name WJ SMYTH brought back fond memory's of a friend I had in Bangor Co Down. His name was Paul SMYTH.,He lived in Bangor West renting a cottage with his mother and father around 1951-2.Paul and I would get the same steam train from Bangor to Belfast and back each day for about one year. He worked at Thomas MacMillan in Belfast(wholesale grocers) I think he may have gone to Bangor Intermediate school the same time as I did.(1949-51) It was so long ago I cannot recall any further info.Hope this may help you??   Rootschat is going to be of great help when I have worked out to what to do. good luck----Bangorreg.

Hiya Bangorreg and welcome!

I do warn you that some of us are a bit batty though but thats just herediatry and highly contageous. Watch out for symptoms of swearing at the computer, banging your head off the desk, unfinished household jobs and the vacant eyed stare when someone is talking to you but your brain is off chasing that elusive ancestory

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any cure for this malady once you are exposed to it

Other than that I hope we can help you with your research and you make loads of new friends on here.  :D

I already know it will be helpful, as I am a real newbie when it comes to county divisions and such....also, I need to learn how to word my requests better on the forum... I have already had some wonderful help from many rootschatters, and many who have offered to help on the chat...
Everyone seems to pop into the common rooms for now, but once it has been discovered, I am sure the other rooms will be full as well! Have already started telling other searchers about it!
Thank you! :D J.J.

I have found the site quite extraordinary in the helpfulness of people.

I have already found a number of leads and a fellow Rootschatter who is researching a branch of my family.

Keep up the good work everyone

I love this site!
Have told many, put it on my website as a reccommended link, and also printed out posters for an event...Yes, there are posters to print out & spread the word about rootschat!
Here in the common room forum just scroll down to "have you posted a poster yet?
( i think there is a smiley face in the folder area...)
