Absolom Smith c 1802
« on: Saturday 21 February 09 23:13 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I wonder if anyone can help me identify this Absolom Smith.c1802

He appears in the 1861 census in Little London, Melton Mowbray, with his son Thomas Smith c1843 and a daughter Adeliza smith c1845. Absolom is PoB unknown but both children are born in Leicestershire.

I have looked on IGI and the only  Absolom there is
s/o Absolom and Elizabeth Smith born 1802 East Haddon Northamptonshire, sibling to Adam Smith and Levinia Smith.

Thanks

Cheryl

Hi

From IGI

THOMAS SMITH s/o Absolom Smith and Beattie
22 JUL 1843   Seagrave, Leicester

possible sibling
ANN SMITH d/o Absolom Smith and Beatria
Chr 21 NOV 1850   Goadby Marwood, Leicester
died 13 DEC 1850

Do you have the children's birth certs ? If we could find  a marriage between Absolom and Beattie we could find out his father's name and go from there.

will look further

Hi Cheryl

The Leicestershire Record Office has a list of Gypsies and Travellers from historic sources on its website here:

www.leics.gov.uk/index/community/recordoffice/recordoffice_resources/record_office_gypsy_and_traveller_index.htm

An Absolom Smith features a number of times as a parent in the baptisms listed here.

Best wishes
