Can you read this 1807 Scottish birth record please

This is part of an 1807 birth record from a register of Scottish births.

I think it says Boden born Janry 4th _ bap ___ die?

Can anyone help to read the word after bap please. Do you think it says die at the end?

Most of the other records on the page give a birth date followed by bap, then another date. I assume this is the baptism date.

Would appreciate some help. Thank you.

If she was baptised on the day of her birth perhaps she was not expected to survive.

On this page there are over 40 birth/baptism entries. Most of which give a birth date followed by bap date which is usually a few days or weeks later.

Hi Angela,

It's a very common phrase so no need for thanks.

I'm wondering whether 4 Jan 1807 was a Sunday which is why the baptism took place then i.e. a family member (or a resilient mother) took the newborn along with her/him to the normal church service in order to have little Boden baptized.  Googling suggests that it was a Sunday.  My genealogy program has a calendar but I can't access my program just at present.

 An incidental piece of trivia,  new mothers were not allowed out the house until they had been 'churched'.  This may still be the case, as I am not  a Christian I do not know.

I didn't realise it was controversial,  I remember my m-i-l telling me that she was not allowed out of the house when she had had her babes until she had been 'churched'.  I, foolishly' didn't think to ask her at the time what was meant by being 'churched'.

I seem to recall some differences of opinion as to whether it was, on the one hand, a purification ritual (the new mother being regarded as unclean) or, on the other hand, a celebration and thanksgiving for the birth.
