I am trying to trace details of a Hannah BOWMAN “born near Cockermouth in Cumberland”, as she told family.
Her death on 22nd Jun1851, in Richmond, Victoria, Australia, recorded her as aged 46 - therefore born 1804/1805.
The first confirmed record of her is the baptism of her son (out of wedlock) Benjamin BOWMAN on the 29th Jul 1827 in the Parish of Hampsthwaite, Yorkshire, England. The record showed that their abode was Darley. Darley adjoins Low Green, and is in North Yorkshire. It is about 7 kms west of the township of Hampsthwaite. (and 34kms north, north-west of Leeds)
Hannah BOWMAN married John EDSON (alt spelling – ETESON) on the 22nd Jun 1828 in the Parish of Hampsthwaite, Yorkshire, England. They were both “of this parish”.
Hannah appeared in the 1841 Census at Leeds, Yorkshire, recording her as;
Hannah EDSON, Female, Age: 35, Born in this County: no
I have traced the family as it grew to 8 children and moved to Leeds and then migrated to Victoria in 1849.
Her son Benjamin has not been consistent with his recording of his birth place. Of interest, when he migrated to Australia he appeared as;
Benjamin Bowman, Age: 23, Gardener, Native Place & County: Cumberland, Religious Denomination: Episcopalian, Read or Write: Read only, If Possesses a Bible: Yes.
I note the distance & terrain between Cockermouth and Darley and have no indication why she made such a long journey to that rural area. All I have is wild speculation.
There are many indications that the family originated in Cumberland. Can anyone help.

PS; There is a Baptism of an Ann BOWMAN on the 13th Jul 1806 at All Saints, Cockermouth, Cumberland, England - daughter of William BOWMAN and Margaret. Unfortunately there is also a marriage of an Ann BOWMAN on the 31 May 1830 All Saints, Cockermouth, Cumberland, England
