can you please date and restore glass photo

hi. i am sorry to put so many pictures on but i have just rescued a box full from my sisters loft. this is a glass picture framed with metal but no backing, hence the damage. thanks, john.

Hi John...did you scan this in colour? A high-res scan of 300-600 dpi would make it easier to see and restore!

What a treasure, you are very lucky to have this even if it does belong to your sister :D

Children's clothing is hard to date. But the glass ambrotype was in production for the most part from 1855 to 1865, so they're fairly easy to date. They didn't completely disappear, though, so the height of the man's topper is an indication that this photo is from before 1865 when the hats became signifigantly shorter. My opinion... :)

hi china. it was scanned at 300 . i tried to put another one on that i made sure was in b&w but i could not get it accepted. the picture is very dark on the original. cheers, john.
