Kraehe
« on: Sunday 22 February 09 15:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I'm completely new at this, I just started yesterday!
I have had a lot of luck following my family back on my dads side, but not so much with my mums side, I have been trying to find my Grandfathers family.
I found the name of my Great great grandfather Friedrich Wilhelm Kraehe and I think he came from germany but thats all I know. I would really appreciate it if anyone knew more about him! I dont know his wife or his parents, only his name. =]
Thankyou!

Hello DimityL

Welcome to Rootschat!   :)

Would you like to give us some idea of name and date of birth for your grandfather, where you found Friedrich's name, and where your last searches showed the family was living?  The more you can tell us, the more (we hope) we'll be able to help

Kind regards,
Barbara

Well, my grandfather told me the name, his father was called Johannes Walter Martin Kraehe and my grandfather is Cedric Norman Kraehe. He didnt know when he died or when he was born but Johannes was born in 1883 and he was the youngest child Friedrich.

It's just dawned on me that this is an Australian family, I wondered why I couldn't find anything in the UK, that's why I asked you for a few more details
 :)

On the IGI website http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Search/frameset_search.asp - enter Johannes into the search box and you'll find there are two member-submitted files  - one for him and one for his brother Johannes Walter Ernest b. 1880

Johannes Walter Martin Kraehe
born 1882  South Australia
died 1959
Parents - Friedrich Wilhelm Kraehe  and  Caroline Kobelt

Friedrich was born Oct 1845  Tangemunde,Kries Sendal, Germany
married about 1866  South Australia
Caroline was born abt 1845 South Australia

and their children are listed

Over to you, Bob  :D

Hi all  :)

I think the German town should be Tangermünde (Kreis Stendal)

Was your Friedrich Wilhelm Kraehe the architect who designed the Berlin Olympic stadium?

I have no idea, I dont know much about the Berlin Olympic stadium...
but it was probably a pretty common name in Germany. it might be something fun to look in to though.
