Regiment query
« on: Monday 14 February 05 12:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi - I wonder if anyone out there has any information about the Rifle Brigade?  My grandfather enlisted in 1911 but on his marriage cert. his occupation was given as costermonger!!  Was the Rifle Brigade at that time a sort of T.A. ?

Thanks
pauline

Hi Pauline,

Yes,the Rifle Brigade were a Territorial unit but known as the Territorial Force rather than the Territorial Army.Heres a link to a great site about all aspects of service in WW1,have a look under 'National Reserve'.

http://www.1914-1918.net/reserve.htm

Hope this helps,Mick ;)

Hi Mick - thanks very much.  That solves the problem as to why his occupation wasn't a "soldier" when he married.   :)
