I thought this may be of interest to you. Ernest's brother, Albert Carter, also a dentist, was my great grandfather. His youngest child, and the only one born in South Africa, was Walter Stanley Carter. My mother, aged 87, is the only surviving one of Stanley's four daughters. I have a little book by Albert that was published in 1880, entitled Dentists and Dentistry "A Dissertation upon Dentists in General". He was Surgeon Dentist to the London Orphan Asylum. Albert's oldest son, Herbert ( a bachelor), was also a dentist and practiced in Newcastle, Natal, for many years from the 1890's . He died in 1962, aged 90. One of Herbert's younger brothers (think it was Philip) was also a dentist, as was his son, Ronald  - who was my dentist when I was a child.
Wonderful that you'll be commemorating 150 years of Ernest's home.

Hello Rozzie - perhaps I know you!  My daughter is married to Albert's great grandson:

1 - Henry and Priscilla
2 - Albert and Mary
3 - Cecil and Ada  (Cecil 1880 brother to Walter Stanley)
4 - Frank and Valerie
5 - Present generation.

As yet you do not have sufficient posts for me to send you a PM.

That will be the Frank of whom my mother has spoken and whom her sister Patricia kept in touch with. I think Patty's daughter still does keep contact with the family - maybe you know her. I'm 'missing' 2 of Albert's children, maybe you can help. I have Jessie, John (Jack), Margaret, May, Philip Bailey, Polly, Herbert, Cecil and Walter Stanley - as remembered by my mother.

Hello Ros,
I have done extensive reseacrh into the Carter family and have quite comprehensive data on most of Albert's family.  As you will realise I am not permitted (nor is it wise) to put information on living reltives on rootschat.  When I can send you a PM I will send you more information if you would like to have it.

Issue of Albert and Emily Mary (Harper) Carter
Herbert 1872 - 1962,  Philip Bayley 1873 - 1944,  Albert 1874 - ??,  Leonard 1876 - 1886,  Horace Burton 1877 - 1920,  Emily Kate 1878 - 1953,  Cecil 1880 - 1958,  Florence May 1881 - ??,  Lily Mary 1883 - 1935,  Jessie Marion 1886 - 1951,  Walter Stanley 1890 - 1950.

One of the children Leonard,  possibly died at sea on the voyage to South Africa.

Frank Cecil (1923), was the son of Cecil (1880), my daughter is marrried to Frank's younger son.

Yes it is Patricia's daughter I know, she does keep in touch with the family.

Regards

Ceeoh

Hi Ceeoh

Florence May Carter died in 1969 in Natal South Africa. There seems to be a bit of history of the Carter family in Ladysmith Natal. Albert Carter is my great great grandfather. As I understand he was the first dental surgeon in South Africa.
