No names registered!EBBS/BOLGER-DUBLIN
« on: Tuesday 24 February 09 22:54 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

Have just started on my fathers side of the family tree.  :D

My Gran gave me names of her brother and sister. Her mother, father, two Aunts and Grandmother.

My problem is I have searched ALL births and marriages of EBBS and BOLGER since 1864 till 1935 in all of Ireland as they came from Dublin.  My Gran came to Manchester during the war as a nurse and stayed.  My Gran's name is Rosalyn but I have found her as Rosaleen.  I have asked her if they had any other names but she said no.  I have found her father as I got his birth date from her and it also matched his Naval service record date of birth, but in Ireland it shows a year earlier.

There are no :o names to match any that my Gran named.  She stated they were definitely their names. And that her parents were married, even checked UK records just to be on safe side, but nothing! :o

Have found her Grandmother, mother and Aunt on the 1901 and 1911 census. Her father was then in the Navy. (But NO clues there)

My Gran was born 1922, her brother(died aged7? but not found birth or death) and sister later.  So would have thought they were easy to find, but their not :o They all lived in Dublin, my Gran being the only one that left.

Was hoping to surprise Gran on her birthday later on this year with at least some of her family tree, but I just seem to be drawing blanks ??? ???

I am presently waiting for arrival of Gran's birth certificate and her fathers birth certificate :D

Does any have any suggestions has anyone come across this before???

Thanks Cancan :D :D :D

some records managed to escaped civil registration - including my granny's birth in 1896.

maybe the certs will give a clue as to the area so you could try Parish records.

Surnames are often mis-spelt in the register - but I cant think of any variation for Ebbs, Bolger maybe could be recorded as
Boulger or Bulger..

There are a number of people who have registered an interest in the Bolger family in Ireland in the "Surname Interests Table".  The link is via "your surname interests" found at the foot of every page.

Would you like to specify your problems more closely? What name, which event, which date?

There is no significant difference between Rosaleen and Rosalyn, so you seem to be safe enough there.

Always double-check family lore - it is as often wrong as it is right.

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

Cancan has a little bit more details on this later thread- http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=535353.0

Can't see a connection to your family yet. For reference, here's the marriage (1894 Booterstown) of Andrew Perry to Catherine Ebbs- her father Arthur Ebbs, gardener-

Son Arthur Perry named for Catherine's father-https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1901/01966/1758475.pdf

Possible death for Catherine's father- Arthur Ebbs, gardener, age 42, wife Mary-

Marriage of Arthur Ebbs (father Arthur Ebbs also a gardener) & Mary Smith-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1876/11158/8087774.pdf

Death of an earlier Arthur Ebbs, perhaps Arthur's father?

You might already have the above details but do let us know if you need help finding anything.

Is this them...……
see below
Christian name And the surname would help. I wasn't sure if the Mother was Ebbs or Bolger.
Margaret can be Mary ( I know it's a pain, so I search by the surnames first)
It says that Athur was a Gardener, this death below, occupation Gardener.
work backwards.... it's easier.

Sorry it was Catherine Ebbs who married my gggrandad Andrew Perry. I know the family tree back to Andrew Perry's mother Bridget, who went into the Dublin South Union, currently Loughlinstown Hospital, the poor house, with him as an 8th month old baby. I have found no trace of Andrews father.
