Hendley Family-Pre 1870
« on: Friday 27 February 09 10:58 GMT (UK) »
Hope someone can help.  I am looking for a William Louis Hendley b. 1843/1844.  I have managed to find his marriage cert.  Married Emilie Coombs 1870, Middlesex.  On his marraige cert. it states that his father was William John Hendley, Gentleman. I have info from the 1871 census that William and Emilie were living in Kingston with son, William aged 2. I have been able to find an array of information for William and Emilie since their marraige but cannot seem to find any info on William Louis'(snr) birth nor any info on his father, William John. I was hoping that there may be some info on the 1851/1861 census records. I have alot of info for Emilie coombs and her family. Hoping someone out there might find something for me to go on.  Thanking you in advance.

Interesting that there's the birth of William Louis Hendley Jr in 1869 and then the marriage in 1870!

Do you have the names of the witnesses and the address from the marriage certificate?

William louis jnr was born 11th Feb 1869, parents marraige was 12th June 1870
Witnesses to William and Emilys' marraige are: Elizabeth Smith( unusual surname LOL) and Arthur Rasiner or Rarmer( not very distinctive handwriting)

I cant find a William Hendley (or variant) born 1843/44ish born Westminster (or similar) with father William with an occupation that might come under 'gentleman' in either 1851 or 61

BUt - nor can I find a birth reg for William Louis Hendley (or sinilar) around that time in Westminster

However there is this birth:
William Louis Osborne
Jul/Aug/Sep 1843 Westminster

on FreeBMD

I havent found any Hendley/Osborne marriage to back it up as a possibility.

If William John (alleged father) was a gentleman, then I guess he had independent means or property to live on and would probably have left a will.
I will look for deaths, but with so little info on him will be hard to pinpoint.

William Louis Osborne is also listed as William Lewis Osborne (?)
He might be the William Lewes Osborne who died in 1858. :(

This family went to Australia, right? Is there anything on William's death certificate there?

A William John "Hendle" died in Westminster in 1852, that's the closest link I can find so far.

Was it Emilie's Father who's profession was shown as " gentleman " or William's ?
