I don't think it's an initial but part of the letter B of Butler.

The words Bachelor and Banns have the same curly bit before the B

I tend to agree with Susan. The same on the word Bachelor. (sorry didn't see you had already put that)Also Letitia has only signed her name Letitia Butler
