I think it is Donning and I see from the censuses that there was a Louisa Dunning, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth born in Liverpool at the right time. I can't find a marriage certificate for Thomas Kennedy and Louise/Louisa, but FreeBMD does throw up a marriage for a Louisa Dunning and either John Cameron, John Cambourne or James McCarney in Mar Qu 1872. I can find  no trace of any of these men in 1881 census in Liverpool. It is possible that she married, first husband did a bunk and so Thomas and Louisa just passed themselves off as married - just a possibility to bear in mind.
