Help With Deciphering Writing
« on: Wednesday 04 March 09 19:27 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me decipher a couple of words on the attached extract from BT of Bolnhurst in Bedfordshire?

The words I cannot read are Catherine's surname and the number of the day of May.

...Thomas Sperry & Catherine ? were married ye ? day of May 1632...

Thanks in advance, Osserick.

I think it's most likely Sum[m]ers...the final 's' is the same as the one in 'Thomas', and the preceding 'er' matches the others in the clipping.

Even though the S is different to that in Sperry, is could well be Sumers. I will check the rest of the BT for similar letters.

Does anyone know what the A is above the name Sumers?

I cheated a bit, and checked the IGI which
has it as Summers. The IGI entry was taken
from the Beds Records Office transcript which
was made after cross checking the PR against
the BT. Perhaps the PR is more obviously Summers

Whilst I was at the Beds record office on Monday, I was informed that there wasn't a PR, and only the BT was available for viewing. So I was unable to make a cross reference.  ???
