If you google Boon Island Lighthouse, with the additional words "Charles W Allen" you'll see that he was the 2nd assistant keeper for the years 1907 - 1911, and 1911 - ?

You can also do this for Doubling Point Lighthouse and see that he was one of only two keepers at this lighthouse and that he was there from 1931 - 1935.

These lighthouses are located:
Boon Island Lighthouse, York County, Maine
Doubling Point Lighthouse, Sagadahoc County, Maine
Marshall Point Lighthouse, Knox County, Maine

I have looked through the censuses up through 1920 for him but have yet to find anything.  He was probably at Marshall Point Lighthouse during the 20s, since those years are yet to be accounted.  Maybe someone can look him up on the WWI Draft Registration Card Index.

Can you give anymore information than what you have posted?  Possible date of birth, place of birth, marriage, parents, anything?

Somewhere I saw it referenced that he was from Lubec, Maine perhaps.  He apparently had a daughter named Barbara.  That's all I've got except for the info below.

Boon Island Light: second assistant, 1907-1911, first assistant 1911-?
Eagle Island Light Charles W. Allen took over the light in 1919 and served until 1931. While serving as keeper, Allen and his family listened to the first radio concert on Eagle Island in 1923 and starting in 1926, they "went to church by radio.”

Marshall Point Lighthouse 1933-1937

And a photo from the Marshall Point web site.

I've found a possible fit:

1880 census:  Lubec, Washington, Maine
Allen, James W, 46
         Zepporah, 48, wife
         Ida W, 24, dau
         James L, 22, son
         George A, 20, son
         Juliett, 18, dau
         John, 16, son
         Linnie R, 14, dau
         Elden G, 11, son
Charles W, 1, grandson  (located at top of next page)

You can probably view the transcription at www.familysearch.org

There are also several trees at www.rootsweb.com at the "search family tree" link midway down the left side.  On one it says that his parents are James and Zepporah, but the 1880 census states that they are his grandparents.  It might help to get his birth certificate, if available.
