Typing going awry!
« on: Friday 06 March 09 22:18 GMT (UK) »
Sorry if this is the wrong board.

I, like many of us I am sure, was never taught to type but have taught myself out of necessity.

Can someone tell me how this happens and what to do to rectify it.
I am typing quite happily but spot an error and go back to rectify it.  But when I press the 'back space' the next letter is removed and if I do it again the following letter disappears and so it goes on.  In other words the back space seems to be going forward!

It is difficult to explain I hope it makes sense.  Has anyone else experienced this and if you did how did you stop it?  And what makes it happen?
Thanks,
Abiam

I don't quite understand what your problem is, so bear with me.

1) When you press the backspace key it deletes the character to the left of the cursor.  Is that correct?

2) Or are you saying that your backspace key is doing the opposite and deleting characters to the right of the cursor?

To the right of the cursor!  And it goes on doing this until you have retyped the whole lot!

I think you have inadvertently hit the "insert" key, up there between the alpha-numeric keyboard, and the "calculator" keypad.  To correct this, just hit it again, and the problem should rectify itself  ;)

Easily done, when the Insert key is next to the backspace key (albeit with a 1/4" gap)  :)

It has cost me a lot of time and patience!!! :'(
And the answer so simple and obvious when you know ;D
Not being taught I have no idea what most of the keys on the right are for and I've never touched the calculator bit!   ???
So, thanks again to RC for solving another of my problems!
Cheers,
Abiam

Not a problem: - I still accidentally hit the rotten thing, now and again ... and have to remind myself to "toggle" it off!
