1901 look-up - completed
« on: Sunday 08 March 09 09:20 GMT (UK) »
I`m trying to find Ralph Daggett, born 1838 in Sheriff Hutton, Yorks.
In 1891 he was living on his own (widower) at 8 Yard, King Street, St Michael
Spurriergate and working as a housepainter.
He spent all his life in Yorkshire and died in 1911 so he should be somewhere in 1901!
Many thanks
Jane

that`s brilliant Barbara.  Do you mind telling me how you went about finding him?  Whenever I lose someone it`s because the name is listed incorrectly and I don`t know how to search for different options.
Thanks very much
Jane

Hi Jane,

It depends which site you're using, some sites have a box to tick for name variations, on ancestry you have to try different variations yourself.

In this case after entering all his details and not finding him, I tried just surname, nothing, so then I just entered Ralph, birth year, and Sheriff Hutton, when Cogger came up I thought it looked an odd name, checked the image and as he was a Painter thought I had the right man.

Sometimes 'less is more' when searching, and often leaving out various details brings up the right person
