PERRETT - COMPLETE
« on: Monday 09 March 09 10:17 GMT (UK) »
Good evening,
I am having a problem with my Perrett family.  According to Christening records Ann Perrett has her 3 base born children - James, Elizabeth and John all Christened in Great Cheverell, Wiltshire. John is "mine" and he says he was born in Great Cheverell.   I think I have found James who says he is born in Bath.  I was wondering if Removal Orders would provide any useful information and where would I find them?  I am working on the supposition that Ann had James and possibly Elizabeth in Bath and was then removed back to Wiltshire (there are a lot of Perretts in Great Cheverell) were she had John.  Is all this a bit far fetched?  Am I away with the fairies?
Thank you
Kind regards
Jill

Sorry Charlotte
Bit blonde today.
All three children were baptised in Great Cheverell in 1805.  In census records James seems to have been born around 1800 and John around 1805 - I don't know about Elizabeth.  I would assume that removal orders would be between 1800 and 1805.  Isn't there something else as well?  Records of illegitimate children or something similar/
Kind regards
Jill

Removal Orders... well... a whole topic and the devil to dig them out from my experience..  :(
It's the hard way to go with this but if you are convinced then you are looking at Overseers of the Poor records for various Parishes where your bods were...
Good luck as I never had any with this! :(

Jill, What leads you to think there is a Removal Order involved with your lot?

Hi Charlotte

The family were not strangers to removal orders.  If Ann had an illegitimate child (or 2) in Somerset then turns up for a third child in Wiltshire then I think checking removal orders might be worth while.  I don't know what else to check!  I am stumped!  I am trying to prove that the child(ren) born in Bath are related to the child(ren) born in Wiltshire.  The parish records (at odds with the IGI) show three children being baptised in Great Cheverell to Ann - all base born - all baptised on the same day.  Two of these children (boys - cant find Elizabeth at the moment) live in Great Cheverell and seem to fit.  But are they the correct brothers?

regards
Jill

Hi Jill, Sounds logical-- the Removal Orders, from my limited experience using them, will be in the Parish Chest if the parish has such records or in the accounts of the Overseers of the Poor.  The Rem Orders  were Parish matters- getting a person off the payroll of one parish into another parish.

I got lucky once-There is a list of a whole family by name and children in correct order that someone stumbled across for me... 1800.
That was gold.

So maybe you need to try to order from LDS the films for that Parish's overseers accounts- and go thru them.

You'll  need a lot of patience and good eyesight...

Thank you Charlotte
I will try that.  John Perrett and his wife Thirza were removed in 1831 and those records showed they had twin girls which was a nice find.  Wiltshire removal orders (or part of them) are on Findmypast - unfortunately Somerset are not.
Thank you for your help
Kind regards
Jill
