Thomas Kenna of Clonageera, Durrow
« on: Friday 13 March 09 10:13 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

This is a mass card of Thomas Kenna of Clonageera, Durrow, Co. Laois, Ireland who died 7 Oct 1947 age 68 years.

This was in the possession of a relative of mine who was born in Durrow. I do not think Mr Kenna is a relative of mine, so I am posting this on this board for anyone who is researching the Kenna family. I hope this helps someone in their search.

Regards,
Megan

I have a Thomas Kenna born 1879 in Durrow he married a Julia Phelan in 1906 and, as far as I can see, had 2 children Edward 1907 and Mary 1909.

Thomas is the son of Edward Kenna born 1842 and Mary Holohan.

My cousin who maiden name was Kenna told me a story of Scottish brothers who came to live in Durrow and  they built the then marble altar rail in the church, my cousin thinks that the brothers came from Scotland to work on Durrow castle.

I notice that you also have McInnerney in your tree the McInnerney's and Kenna's are linked

Myluck thank you for the information, I have all the above information going back to Andrew Kenna born abt 1812 and his wife Catherine Coonan.

I was trying to solve Megan's mystery regarding the mass card for Thomas Kenna.

Meagan has McInnerney's in her tree and they are linked to the Kenna's perhaps it is via this link that the mass card came in her possession?

Hi,
I'm sorry that I cannot help with your query. The Mass card was among the possessions of my relative who was from Durrow but died as a missionary priest in South Africa. I posted the Mass card for any relative that might be searching for this person.
As for my McInnerney relatives, they came from Co Clare and as far as I can tell were in Clare since the earliest record I have for them which is around the 1760's. I don't think there is any connection to your family. Sorry that I cannot help with your search.

Myluck

Over time there were a lot of Thomas Kenna's in Darrow so I checked the mass card out with my cousin who remembers Thomas's children, I checked out the death certificate and it was Edward, Thomas's son, that registered the death of Thomas and the address that Edward gave is correct.

Megan

Thanks for posting the mass card.
