I am searching for any info on Thomas DELANEY born in Armagh in 1819 also his son James DELANEY born in  either Armagh or co Mayo. Ireland in 1846/7.They moved from Ireland  to England.lived in the Staffordshire region where James Married Ann McCarthy in 1871 in Bilston. Staff's.where they had my Grandmother Bridget in 1881.I cant seem to find any info at all  on Thomas except his name on James marriage cert and i think in the 1881 census in the newcastle under lyme area.
                            would really  appreciate any info at all on this Delaney clan. thank you.SYLVIA

Are you doing a One Name Study on the entire family name or are you just after information on these particular individuals?

 Thomas.
If i could just find who Thomas was married to and James actual birth i could move on.
    I might strike it lucky one day.

Searching for Thomas Delaney.
Born 1819 to 1822.In County Armagh .
 Had a son James .born 1847-48
James may have been born in County Mayo.
If any one can help with this family would much appriciate it.
They moved to England and lived in Staffordshire before 1871.
If Someone could search the 1871 census for Thomas In the Staffordshire region it could be an help in finding out who His wife was.
He would more than likely be in the Newcastle under lyme area.
As far as James is concerned I have all info except his birth place and year.
I dont have any info on Thomas just his name on the marriage cert of James.

Hi sylvia,

Did James marry in England or Ireland and in what year did he marry ?
There appears to be a possibility that Thomas may have died in Ireland before James and his family moved to England. I am puzzled why you consider the possibility that James may have been born in Co. Mayo. It is a distance of 100 miles + from Co. Armagh. I wonder if Thomas may have been in the RIC and had been transferred to Co. Mayo. This might have accounted for James being born in that county.

Hello Chris.
Thomas died in England in 1898 i have his death cert......He died in New Castle under lyme Staffordshire  .His daughter Bridget was with him. I  have also found him in New  Castle under lyme area in the 81 census with his daughter Bridget who gave her birth place as Co Mayo, Now  Bridget is the reason i thought James may have been born in Mayo, bacause Bridget  was. I have also found a John Delaney from  Co Mayo living in the New Castle under lyme area who i thought could be james brother.
I have searched all over Ireland for james and had no luck.I thought i had him in Antrim as the year was right but the father was a william Delaney  and James has  Thomas on his Marriage cert.
 Its all guess work for me I'm afraid.
i can't find Thomas birth or James birth.

Oh James was married in Bilston ,Staffordshire in 1871, i have his
marriage cert.......James died in 1904  in Bilston.
I cant find Thomas  marriage so  i am sort of stuck .I just can't move on.I thought it may have been possible that Thomas met a girl from Mayo and he married there.
This is all Guess work of course.

Now the  big ? is the only reason i think that The Thomas, in New Castle area is mine is because Ann McCarthy, James wife was born in that area .(Longton )according to the 1881 census and  thought that is where they may have  met
I just took it for cranted that, that is where the Delaney's moved to after leaving Ireland.

I may not be the super sleuth i think i am.

Hello Sylvia,

You are trying to find out where Thomas was born. You have his date of birth and know he was born in Armagh but not where in Armagh. Do you know the names of his parents ?  Do you think it would be reasonable to assume that Thomas named his son James after his own father ?

I have been looking through Griffiths Valuations 1864 for Co. Armagh and found a lot of James Delaneys. I found them at the following places - Drumarg and Umgola (both close to Armagh City), Camagh and Carryhugh (in the Derrynoose area), Carrickcroppan and Enagh (in the Killevy area) and Tullyogallaghan (in the Newtownhamilton area). http://members.cox.net/hayes1966/lo1876.htm

 I don't have any info at all on Thomas except his name from James  marriage certifficate, so i am gratefull for any advice .
