Frederick's parents were Thomas Newington NEWBERY b. abt 1779 Hampton Court and Ann Ledger ? Rice ? BENFIELD  b. ? d. ?

They married on 13 Oct 1805 St Bride's London. That marriage can't be found so possibly the date and or place are incorrect ?

I'd appreciate some help with any of the items marked '?'.

Thanks.

Hi fred2derf,

Do you have Thomas Channon on the 1851 census?  It looks as if his first wife Ann may have died and he remarried to a Sarah.  Ref for 1851 is here HO107; Piece: 1902; Folio: 146; Page: 3

Hello Spidermonkey,

Thank you very much.  I suspected the early death of Anne and had found those two possible ones in Falmouth. I had not found the possible one for his 2nd spouse Sarah.

The birth of James CHANNON is the one that has me really puzzled.

Regards,

fred2

Hello Spidermonkey,

No I don't have James (Sr) & Elizabeth in 1861 or 1871. James (Jr) married in NSW in 1875.

1861
Liskeard
Thomas Channon, 55, innkeeper, b. Devonshire Devonport
Sarah, 59, b. Torquay
Emaline M, 23, b. Exeter
Ellen, 21, b. Falmouth
Alfred Rowe, 13, nephew b. Poplar

I just thought of something from left field.  The date I have for son James'  birth is 1847 yet the marriage of his parent's is Jun Q 1849.

1851
Name: James Channon
an Engineer
Age: 22
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1829 [actual date is 1830]
Relation: Lodger
Gender: Male
Where born: British Subject, Gibraltar
Civil Parish: St Blazey
County/Island: Cornwall

with the Trembath/Tremberth family in Foundry Row
and it looks like a W for Widower not N for single.

Why is he not with his spouse and...?

All three died in NSW but I don't know when they arrived in Australia. Son James died in 1920 and a bio has in part "...house called ‘Pakenham’. It had been built in 1894 and was the realisation of a childhood dream for a young Cornish [?] immigrant, James Channon...because Channon lived well into his seventies..."

So that indicates a birth around 1847 or even earlier, well before the 1849 marriage.

I noticed births of several James CHANNON in Honiton, Devon around 1850.

Regards,

fred2

Hello,

Does anyone know anything of the NEWBERY family from Hampton Court, Middlesex? In particular anything of Thomas Newington and his spouse Ann and their children?

Looks like I'll have to split this into three topics, one for each family.

Fred

Added:  I have created a separate topic for the NEWBERY family.
