Yes, very tough times. I did notice the other 1866 deaths.

No, I don't have any NSW death certificates yet. It's early days in the creation of my family tree and when I have more data I'll be in a better position to decide which ones to purchase.

Have just discovered this site and James Robert Channon queries. His son, James, was my great-grandfather who did build the lovely home, "Pakenham" in Hornsby, NSW. His daughter, Effie Louise, was my grandmother  who sadly died in childbirth, 1903.
James Robert's suicide (May, 1870) was tragic. His father, Thomas, has been reported as committing suicide, too.  Many of us seem to be tied up in details re Thomas and his wife. Anxious for clarification!
James Robert attempted suicide while in the RN in Sth America and spent 3 months in The Haslar Hospital, Hampshire....have not been able to get official confirmation of this.  Anyone?
