EDWIN EASTWOOD... born Bridgnorth
« on: Wednesday 18 March 09 20:22 GMT (UK) »
Any chance someone might check out Edwin's baptism? I have had the Archives look around 1819 in Bridgnorth & no joy. Looking at free BDMs he died in 1881 aged 67 which suggests he was born about 1814. His Dad was a plumber called Thomas and I can find no trace of him at all in the Census Records!  Any help would be gratefully received.

Hi Carole,

Thanks for your interest. Edwin seems to have trouble knowing when he was born. I have seen the census entries for Edwin but no sign at all of Thomas, his father. Thomas is named on Edwins marriage certificate. He is shown as a plumber and no mention of being deceased.  It is the age at death on the free BDM for Edwin that points to 1814 as his DOB. Course this less likely to be correct but a possibility?

Hi

Although Thomas is not shown as deceased when Edwin married -that does not mean he was still alive.  If Edwin was just asked for his fathers name and occupation, unless he specifically said he was deceased the registrar would assume he was still alive

Hello Simon,

I am also looking into Edwin as he is (in theory) the grandfather of a 'scarlet pimpernel' character a few generations back in my late father's family.  This sort of  mystery and general remarrying / name variations seems to happen a lot in this branch of our family, along with sometimes completely vanishing!  Please let me know if you have a tree on ancestry and we can compare notes!  No help on Baptisms though - am currently looking into the Eastwood / Bridgnorth connection for other family members.

Regards,
Karen Dodd

Hi Karen,

I'm afraid I do not have a tree for Eastwoods on Ancestry although I can send you a copy of my tree from "Family Historian" if you can let me know your email.  I am not an Eastwood but a very good friend of mine is, hence my interest.

You're probably right, you can phone me with info (*) if you like. I'd be interested in viewing your Ancestry tree. If you ring let me know who I should search for in "Trees".
