« on: Saturday 21 March 09 15:13 GMT (UK) »
My great great grandfather wrote his address on the 1911 form but what's the house number?

I think it says 126 or 146 Abbey Rd, Barking , Essex.
What do other people think?

I pick 146  - don't know if someone writing a 2 would go to the bother of getting that last downstroke on the end of the middle number - his handwriting doesn't look especially flowery enough to suggest he would  do that?  I could be 1216, I suppose  ;D  ;D  ;D But I think 146.

Are there no other 2's or 4's written anywhere on the schedule?

Cheers

Thanks for the quick replies. I can see another couple of 2s but no 4s and the 2s are clear and not like this one so I think I shall go with 146 as that's what everyone thinks. Thanks Pels and Ambly.

Don't think that Abbey Rd was quite long enough for 4 digit nos... ;D

Just had a look for it on google street view.. just out of town shopping by the looks of it no houses- quite useful new thing by google though.

Initially I thought 1216 but given what you say about the length of Abbey Road I will go with 146.
