Mary frances wife of "the first Thomas" 
i do believe was born in 1801 in the census that i have found her...
wonder if william, the little brother was the only other rogers boy.

i suppose only knowing that he was born in 1840/1 isn't enough to find him in -  i presume brymbo..

i presume he would have been baptised at st mary's......

i know my thomas (Who married Jane) was born in Brymbo c.1838 - and his parents were Thomas and Mary Frances Rogers
i have found them in 1871 - in Long Row Brymbo, Thomas's mother is living with them aged, 71 and a widow - but for this date i don't know anything about her - according to the census - and we ALL know how accurate they are!
she was born 1800 in Brymbo.
Rather bizarre - william their son had the middle name of what looks like "Metz" never  heard of that one before - have any of  you ??(how odd! - sounds slightly hebrew.) their other son is Thomas Jas. ( i'm not sure what that is abbreviated from - james??)

It looks like his birth was registered as ROGERS, WILLIAM METZ; Mother's maiden name: JONES

Metz is a city in northeast France located at the confluence of the Moselle and the Seille rivers. It's far-fetched, but maybe his parents travelled there, and named him after the place where he was conceived, like the David and Victoria Beckham did with at least one of their children. 

A more probable theory could be that it was related to the Siege of Metz, which lasted from 19 August – 27 October 1870 during the Franco-Prussian War and ended in a decisive Prussian victory when the French surrendered. This may have influenced his parents choice of names. The timing's right; it might have been relatively fresh in their minds when they were expecting him.

FindMyPast shows no records of anyone being christened "Metz" before 1870, but there were 10 given that first or middle name across Wales and England between 1870 and 1899 (7 in 1870-71), with only 4 in the 20th century.

FYI: In the 1939 Register, it looks like William, his wife Elizabeth, son William A, and daughter Mary G ROGERS, were living at 11 Argoed, in Brymbo.
Their respective birthdays were recorded as 6 Mar 1873, 12 Oct 1870, 3-Aug-16 and 5-Mar-21.
William Metz ROGERS was buried in Brymbo on 23 Mar 1943. His burial record said he was 70, and lived at 11 Argoed.

A William ROGERS aged 74 was buried in Brymbo on 29 Nov 1915. His address was given as "1 Long Row, Brymbo". Do you know who this might be?
