Had a quick search and can't find birth for George but maybe you'll have better luck.

W.V also has a state website with birth records (site says they've restored images but doesn't seem to be working too well yet):

Are you sure he was born in West Virginia? any idea of town or county (state website lists coverage on right hand side of page)

If he lived long enough, remained in the US, and wasn't already in the military, he probably would have filled out a WWI Draft Registration Card.  However, on a quick search, I didn't see any George W. Hunters that were born in 1891.  If you know where in WV the family lived, that might help.

he came back to the uk in 1898 so wouldn't be in the ww1 usa draft

he may have been born in cabell county - as far as we know it was Mount Carbon
