My 3 x Gt Grandfather was Henry Richardson born 1801 in Hawick. Parents are James Richardson and Jane Scott.  Henry's siblings are: William (c1791), Walter (c1792), Betty (c1794), James (1796), Thomas (1806) and James (c1808).  This info is from the IGI (extracted records) and the mother's name is recorded on some records as Jean Scott on others as Jane Scott.  I have looked on Scotlands People and I cannot find a marriage of a James Richardson to a Jean or Jane Scott. There IS however the marriage to Isabel Scott.  Scotlands people have a death for Isabel Richardson. 23/8/1818. Hawick. Other names recorded on death record are Jas Richardson and Scott.  Looks likely to be the Isabel who married James Richardson in 1787.  Nothing returned for a Jean Richardson between 1807 and 1854.  There is a Jane Richardson in 1810 but the other names recorded on record are Rutherford and Ritchie.  No mention of a Richardson.

I have 3 Isabella's and 3 Jane's scattered around my Richardson tree but no Jean's.  On the IGI there is a James Richardson born c1767 to John Richardson and Isabel Scott.  I was wondering if it were possible that if the son of John and Isabel married another Isabel Scott it may have been confusing so the younger Isabel became known as Jean or Jane.  Just a thought.

Hi

My ears are picking up on your threads, you could be talking about my family too.......WOW I hope so.

I come up through Alexander Richardson, son of Andrew Richardson and Margaret Pollock branch of the tree. I havent got Andrew Richardsons parents yet, However, If mine and your Andrew b1791 Hawick are the same, then we really do link up our trees........

My Alexander m Christina Burns. They had Janet / Andrew / John Burns ( my Gt Grandfather} and Margaret  all born in Hawick.
John Burns Richardson m Annie Crozier in Hawick 1884, they had six kids. Alexander/ William / Fergus/ Thomas / Christina / James Murray ( my Grandad)b1897 Hawick.
James Murray Richardson m Grace Anderson and had twins, My father John Burns Richardson and Walter Romanes Richardson b1924 Hawick

Here's hoping
Happy Hunting

Hi there:
Wonderful, searching same line.

I have JAMES RICHARDSON b.1767 marrying ISOBEL SCOTT on 22 Nov 1787, Hawick, Roxburgh - 4 children.
Also JOHN RICHARDSON b.1741 marrying ISOBEL SCOTT on 10 Apr 1761, Hawick, Roxburgh - 8 children.   I have double checked this data, but it seems strange that there are two ISOBEL SCOTT's in two generations and very confusing.

I then have parents of JOHN RICHARDSON b.1741 as GEORGE RICHARDSON b1703 and BETTY SHIEL - 4 children born from this marriage.

Do you have ISOBEL RICHARDSON (nee Pursel) b.1680 who married ANDREW RICHARDSON b.1682 1n 1702 in Hawick?

Look forward to exchanging further data.

Regards Maggie

Hi Maggie and everyone,

It's been a long while since you last posted and I'm hoping you're still on this forum. I've had to put the family history on hold for a while and I'm only just picking up the reins again. I haven't yet sorted out all the James', John's and Isobel's yet and just wanted to touch base to see if anyone has found anything else out. I'm still not sure whether I can actually claim my James RICHARDSON and Jean/Jane SCOTT is in fact the James and Isobel SCOTT you all are talking about. I'm happy to pass on my personal email if anyone would like to correspond further. Please message me.
Cheers,
Alison
