Hello thank you for the suggestions for Matthew Thompson. I have been looking at the census for John William Thompson and there seems to be a conflict of ages and birth places. In 1851 birth 1813 in Madely Shropshire, 1861 birth 1821 Staffordshire, 1871 birth 1818 Bilston Stafford. his wife Elizabeth Holbrow died in Armley as a widow 1872. The witnesses on the marriage cert are William Holbrow, Helen Niblet and a William Pye. Matthew was a miner.ks I'll do some more research. Thanks Annk
Hi Ann,
I havent been able to find my Thompson ancestor Jane b 1830 Madeley in
the 1841 Census either..she just pops up in the 1851 census
by which time she had married.
Her husband died in 1868 and she later moved with the younger children to Staffordshire
and then to Cheshire to remain close to her older children.
Regarding differing details re birth being given in the Census
I'd be inclined to go with the info from the 51 Census that he was born in
Madeley Shropshire and perhaps chose to give alt details to subsequent
census takers ..perhaps just for the fun of it.. and a lot of people did that
or they simply didnt know too much about their birth details etc.
Just give it time and the pieces will hopefully fall into place
kindest regards from
Wendy
