Hello Heather and a warm welcome to Rootschat. Can you please tell us where in Scotland William Douglas was born in 1842?  He was found in Texas in 1892 in Tarrant County...was this a census? Do you know his wife's first name and the names of the children who are buried in Texas?  Also, the name of the 16 year old daughter from a marriage in Scotland....does this mean that William Douglas may have had two wives?  A few more details may help us find these folks for you...   :)   Pat

Just a note: the SSDI does not include every deceased person who had an SSN number. The later the death the more likely it appears on the SSDI.

number of entries by death year:
1937: 647
1947: 11663
1957: 62889
1967: 1129509
1977: 1744767
1987: 1895727
1997: 2153963
2007: 2301013

I can't see him in the 1900 census, but he may have moved on.

 - you can find people who will do lookups here and some online records, you might be able to find his second wife if they married in Tarrant Co.

"Mary Campbell Douglas" - was she 16 in 1892? 16 when they emigrated from Scotland? Do you know when/who she married?

There is a Forth Worth (Tarrant Co) newspaper available here, 1888-1890, perhaps you can find some mention of him there.

Thank you jorose
You can read the info on find a grave about the family. The grave is in a well to-do area, and we know that he was a Stonemason. So he would have constructed the grave headstones. I do not know were in the USA he would have married. Mary was 16 when she died and she arrived in the USA the year before I have her living in Dallas in 1891, I also have her comming in to the USA via New York. She was due to get married and was buried in her Wedding dress.  I have not been able to get the death cert or any info on the births of the chn as one has to know were they have died not were they have been buried.
I am wondering if he had made it to Texas by then. there is a William Douglas in California that could fit-Butt he was a labour in that one and single, date not quite correct.  :)

Hello to all that helped before.
I now have William Douglas marriage.
from the Forth Worth daily gazette dated Oct 23 page 5 Image 5
marriage of Miss Martha E Lane Waco Texas Oct 19 1890 to William Douglas.
i find that Martha died.
Martha was 40 years old at the time of her death.
Name:   Martha Douglas
Event Type:   Burial
Event Date:   1896
Event Place:   Fort Worth, Tarrant, Texas, United States of America
Photograph Included:   N
Death Date:   26 Jul 1896
Affiliate Record Identifier:   38650261
Cemetery:   Oakwood Cemetery
Plot Block 25, Space 64
Gravesite Details Does not have a headstone.

The cemetery states that William Douglas is the owner of block 25 space 65.
both plots are just down from the children and.
I am surprised that there is no headstone for Martha,Seen he was a mason and had his own business, commissioning many buildings in Texas.
I have not been able to find a death notice.
Any more info to unravel the plot would be most help full. :)

William Douglas is in more than 20 trees on Ancestry.

Since you first posted in 2009 have you revisited your sources to see what extra information is now available on-line?

Which specific 'plot' are you trying to unravel?

Just putting link to Mary's gravestone:
