1871 lookup please - BUTCHER - Aspley Guise/Heath
« on: Wednesday 01 April 09 17:20 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anybody can help me find the following family in 1871 please.
George Butcher married Ann Sedgwick in 1867 and I have them in 1881 at Leighton Hill, Aspley Heath - George is age 42, Ag Lab, b. Wavendon. Ann is 35, b. Aspley. They have 6 children at this time - John, 14, Ag Lab; Emma, 12; Elizabeth, 9; Thomas, 7; Mary, 5; William, 2.
So in 1871 John and Emma should be with them and they were both born Aspley.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks DB10

WOW that was quick - many thanks Lizdb. The address is interesting as well as Leighton Hill is very close to Church Road so they didnt move far!!
Thanks for the very quick response and I can now move on  ;D

Dont worry about your Ps and Ss you're not the only one - I've even seen it in transcriptions from the census!

Just to get things correct  ;D Thats Leighton Hollow, not Hill.  The area is still there, but the buildings have gone.  A dirt track splits off at the bottom of Aspley Hill and goes parallel to Church Road.  About half way up is an area of grass on your left where all the rest is woods.  That was Leighton Hollow.  It was also known as Georges Square.
Researching Woburn Sands (was Hogsty End), Wavendon, Aspley Heath and Walton.
