Birth look up..please
« on: Monday 06 April 09 13:13 BST (UK) »
I have david lloyd abt 1854 , 1881 cens says he was born in Llanbadarn fynydd radnorshire. On his marriage to Mary Ward it gives his father as Richard Lloyd, I can not find him on 1861 with father richard only a grandfather, I sent for birth cert for david lloyd b 1853, vol11b page 187, wrong one.
Would anyone be able to look for birth record for david lloyd 11b pg 148, if anyone going to records office. Thank you.

Hi

Sorry - Births found on freebmd cannot be looked up for further info.  Certificates need to be purchased

As you know his fathers name, you could always send for a copy of the birth cert but put a condition on your application that you only want it if father was called Richard.  If it’s the wrong one – you will only be charged a £3 search fee

Are you sure you have the right 1861 entry for David?

That entry shows his grandfather was Richard but also shows an unmarried son called Richard who was only 21.

If David's father was Richard - it's impossible for it to be this family given that David is 8 in 1861

What was Richard's occupation on David's marriage cert

Hi Carole, Not really sure if his father was Richard even though it was on marriage cert,(could that happen, I think it could be grandfather)
Richard had unmarried daughters and a son edward??? was David one of theirs...
Thanks for the tip and reply. l have already had a wrong cert today for david, lol.
Take care

Hi

I think you can ignore Edward but it's more likely David was the illegitimate son of one of the daughters

It was not at all unusual for an illegitimate child to make up a fathers name when they married so as to make them appear "respectable" and coincidentally - his grandfather was called Richard and was a farmer

I notice that the 1891 census shows David's birthplace as Llandbodian Radnor

Hi Liz

Did you know that the registration district of Knighton covered Llanbadarn fynydd and there is only one birth registered there between 1852-1855

Births September qtr 1852

David Lloyd   Knighton  11b 169

Going back to the 1861 census - David was aged 8yrs which would be correct as at 1860.  However - his age subtracted from 1861 gives a birthyear of 1853

The 1861 and 1901 just shown Radnor but the 1871 also shows Llanbadarn fynydd and he was working as a servant there in 1871 (transcribed as Lloydd)
