Hi Barbara,

I am sorry I can't help you. I have a transcript of the Branton register but it is from 1785 to 1809 only.

I have Branton Presby baptisms up to 1837 but no Thomas Graham 1809-1817, actually no one named Graham at all.

Hi

THANKS a lot for your help it was a long shot - i have Thomas Graham marrying Grace Selby in an irregular marriage and the record states he is of Branton- not sure if he was presbyterian but there must be a reason that they were married across the border!!! Thanks again

Hi jora and 2zpool -

Could you please check to see if there are other children born to James and Mary Chrisp/Crisp around 1809 and christened at Branton who might be the siblings of James born 1809 - my earlier posts as"fullback" refer.

Cheers and thanks

Alan

I think this was 1811, they are sort of mixed up some plus gives a bit more information:  William Crisp born 16 June baptised 22 July 4th son of James Crisp, Shepard of Hareup, native of West Wood House by his wife Mary Robinson, native of Northumberland

Mary Crisp born 25 Mar 1814, baptised 18 Apr 1814 1st daughter of James Crisp, late shepard of Hareup native of West Westwook nr Wooler by his wife Mary Robinson native of Northumberland

As late shepard--did James die then?  I see no further baptisms to this family of Crisps but there is a John and Mary [nee Elliott] of Hareup, shepard having children

Hi Janis -

Thank you very much for the information about the Branton christenings of William and Mary Crisp, the children of James and Mary Robinson/Crisp.

I do not know when James died, so do not know if the reference to "late" means "dead" or "once a resident thereof".

Seems there were a number of Crisp families having their children christened at Branton around that time: 1) George and Anne with George in 1807; 2) John and Mary Elliott with William 1792, Mary 1810, Ann 1814, Hannah 1817, Adam 1819; 3) John and Isabel Lee with John 1807.

Thanks again for you helpful reply

Alan

Hi Janis -

Could you confirm that James Crisp was native of Weetwood House (Hall?) and West Weetwood, rather than Westwood.

Thanks

Alan

I am dealing with a typed transcription so this is what is in there--the original could have something different I don't know

William Crisp baptism says that James was from West Wood House

With Mary is says West Westwood.

Hi Janis -

Thanks for your efforts.  I know that transcriptions can sometimes be problematic e.g. census returns.

An internet search of old (1820) maps of Wooler I found places called Weetwood Hall and West Weetwood which were quite close together, and near Wooller,  so I think I'll go with those names as being "correct".

Cheers

Alan
