Hello

It 's just to the north of Galashiels.  If you try www.geograph.org.uk  there are several good photographs of the ruined tower.  Enter the towers name in the search box.  The front page also has a zoomable map which will be centered on the tower once you've entered the name in the search box.  Click on the map to make it interactive.  No need to register.

Regards,   Steve  :O)  (with Gala connections on his wifes side).....

Thanks,
It looks like you go out of town to the
North and West kind of like your
going to Stow. It shouldn't be to hard to
find.

Hi Piglet
I have just had a look at the Geography site you mentioned.  Great photos of Buckholm Tower and surroundings.  Many thanks for this website.

I have two books by the Old Gala Club showing old photos of the Tower.   One photo has a Victorian/Edwardian lady standing in the archway of the tower.   Maybe one of your ancesters Gala Girl!!

I think you will find that the Fairy Dene is the Elwynn Glen a favourite place in the 40/50s for picnics with little bridges running over the Elwynn that runs down into the Tweed. To get to it you go from Gala towards Melrose via Langlee.Just past the 30MPH and Langshaw junction  sign the road goes down the hill and then up to a bad bend.At the bottom of this hill on the flat on your left is Elwynn Glen. I believe nothing has survived from the old days.If you e-mail me I will send you an original postcard which i have two copies.

Hello Alan

I often used to cycle down to Ellwyn Glen with friends and have picnics up the burn or go with the girl Guides to work for our hiking badges.  I wondered if it has become overgrown now like many of the paths we used to walk along in that area.   There is a photo of one of the bridges in the glen in the Old  Gala club book of photographs and also an old postcard in Ebay.

It will be very pretty at this time of year as the new leaves and blossoms are appearing.

Cheers Rev
Cameron, Dewar, Jack.
