Thomas Salmon - Where did he come from?
« on: Monday 13 April 09 13:52 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

Following all the help I recieved when researching Jane Salmon I wonder if anybody would be able to find Thomas Salmon (Jane's g grandfather) before 1871.

Thomas married Margaret Swinburne between 1861-1864 (although I can't find any trace of this marriage) probably in Chester-le-Street. Thomas could have been born anywhere between 1832-1839 and I can only find him on two census the 1871 and 1881 where he states both times that he was born in Leamington Lane (Yorkshire/Durham).  I have no idea where he might mean.
His occupation was a blacksmith.

Can anybody trace him between 1841 and 1871.  I've tried all combinations of his name and age to no avail!

Margaret was born about 1836 to Robert Swinburne and Margaret Davison.  Robert was born in 1812 in Chester-le-Street and married Margaret in 1832. As well as Margaret the couple also had Elizabeth born about 1830, Jane 1833, Mary 1839, William in 1843, Ann in 1845, george in 1848 and Thomas in 1850.
However, although I can trace this family in 1851 I can't find them either in 1841 - any ideas?

Once again, thanks to all for your previous assistance!

Sue

Hi Sue,

Sorry, I can't find Thomas either but in 1841 Margaret's family seem to be at HO107/300/2 27 4 in Chester le Street (leave surname out)

Hi Sue,

Do you have him in 1891 census?  When did wife Margaret die?

I was just wondering about this one, maybe a remarriage, and if born Bedale (Beadle on census) that's quite near Leaming in North Yorkshire

Hi Barbara,
I was just going to post that one!!  ;D

Had to go out for a while -   great minds think alike, Heywood  :D

I was thinking about where Leaming Lane could be and the only Leaming I could think of was the one near Bedale, so looks likely, doesn't it?

Give me a min to get back into it!
