Christopher OSBORNE b about 1860
« on: Tuesday 14 April 09 10:11 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with information re CHRISTOPHER OSBORNE B Abt 1860. He married SOPHIA POOL B Abt 1868 on 30 Dec 1891 in Adelaide. They then travelled to Broken Hill where their son CHARLES OSBORNE was born on 3 Jan 1892. I am trying to find out who the parents of both Christopher and Sophie were and where they were both born. Keep coming up with blanks so any help would be most appreciated.
Regards
Gayle

Whoops  doubling up  with  Kris

If  you can  purchase  the son's birthcertificate  in NSW

the  following information should be detailed on  it

Birth Certificates

Full name, sex, date and place of birth
Mother's details including full name and maiden name, age, occupation, place of birth
Father's details including full name, age, occupation, place of birth
Date and place of parent's marriage
Previous children of the relationship

So  you  should  find out  where  Christopher was born.

Four days  from Adelaide  to Broken Hill in  those days  from wedding  to  birth  that would have been  very trying.

No sign of a birth for Christopher in SA. Looking at UK I do find a chap I think may be a possibility

Christopher OSBORN b Sep 1858 Penzance 5c 313

Cornwall census is free online

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,144624.0.html

he can be found with his parents Charles and Ann in Treway, Zennor Cornwall (Penzance District) in 1861 and 1871. Parents still there in 1881 no sign of Christopher and I don't see a death. Charles is a farmer. Charles and Ann are already married by 1841 with a six month old son Charles. Possible marriage

OSBORN Charles = OSBORN Ann Sep 1/4 1840 Penzance 9 247

Thanks Kris  and Jenn,
Re Charles Pool and Mary Rowe, am I correct in my reading of the text that they named two daughters Sophia? Or were only those children spelt Pool were from the one family? Do I also understand correctly that Charles Pool and Mary Rowe were married in SA?
I am pretty sure the info about Christopher is correct. I always was told the Osbornes came from Cornwall. Will now do some more digging on them.
Cheers

You're a gem Kris, thanks so much for that. Another question is Karinga Dist Bur an area in South Australia - I thought it might be Burra where there were a lot of cornish miners. Feel silly asking but I guess I need to know this.
Again thanks a million.

Hi Gayle,

Yes District Bur is Burra - Kooringa is a part of Burra (100 miles north of Adelaide.) I expect Charles was probably a miner as they have relocated from Burra to Kadina another mining area. Many moved on from Burra to the Copper Triangle, (Kadina, Moonta, Wallaroo). In SA's very early history, during the mining boom Burra's population in 1851 was 5000 (second to Adelaide, and probably 4 times more than it is today) If you look at the timeline you will see the decline about the time Charles moved to Kadina. Many Cornish miners came seeking a better life, leaving a big Cornish history and architecture in Burra.

Incidentally for a lot of SA miners, the next stop was Broken Hill
