DICKIE, Menstrie
« on: Wednesday 15 April 09 19:18 BST (UK) »
I am researching the DICKIE families that lived in Menstrie from at least 1808 until 1951. Various generations owned the public house now known as the Holly Tree from the mid 1800's until 1914.

Would really like to make contact with anyone who has a connection. Or can point me in the direction of any local hisory sources or any period photographs of Menstrie.

Steve

Oh good grief, those pictures of Menstrie took me back  :'(

My mothers family lived there for years and I remember a great aunt taking me to the Holly Tree Inn for lunch when I was about 8 or 9.

Hello Steve

My great grandfather had a sister named Margaret MacMillan who married a Robert Dickie in 1895 in Tullibody.  Margaret died in 1904 and Robert remarried. His #2 wife was  Margaret Page .  Robert died in 1947 at Hollytree House Menstrie. His occupation was a cooper.   The informant on the d/c is his son Robert Dickie .    Robert was the son of Robert Dickie, also a cooper and Jane Paterson

Looks as though there's a few Dickies buried in Tullibody Churchyard/Cemetery (including some of Sylvia's).

I don't think there's a cemetery in Menstrie, so Tullibody or maybe Logie would be the closest?

Have a look here: http://www.memento-mori.co.uk/

No cemetery in Menstrie, Logie appears to be the local one for Menstrie.  Next time I'm through at Logie, I  have gt aunt and gt and also gt gt grandparents buried there, I'll have a look at the stones and see if I can see any with the name Dickie.
