Fleming: Ramsey: Danks: Pennsylvania
« on: Thursday 16 April 09 11:56 BST (UK) »
Looking for information on descendants of Joseph Fleming and his wife Ursula, m/s Ramsay.

Ursula (c.1869, Glasgow) emigrated from Barrow-in-Furness to USA in 1927 with sons John (c.1908, Barrow) and Duncan (c.1913, Barrow); son Joseph (c.1905, Barrow) had emigrated one month earlier, possibly with his brother George (c.1893, Glasgow).

Daughter Ursula (c.1891, Glasgow) had married Joshua Danks and they with two children emigrated to USA in 1929. Daughter Annie (c.1892, Glasgow) stayed in Barrow-in-Furness.

No information on remaining children Isabella (c.1898, Glasgow), Willliam (c.1901, Glasgow), Janet (c.1903, Barrow), Archibald (c.1910, Barrow).

Only other info found so far is Ursula and Joshua Danks are (probably) buried in Arlington Cemetery.

It appears that he/she is referring to this Arlington Cemetery outside Philadelphia.

WWII Draft Registration Card
George (no middle name) Fleming
13 Cricket Terrace, Ardmore, Lower Merion, Montg. Co., Pa.
No telephone
Age 49, born 23 Jan 1893 in Glasgrow (spelled that way), Scotland
Person who will always know his address:  Mr. Joseph Fleming, 225 Grandview Rd., Ardmore
Employer:  Mr. Wigtom (Estate owner), Gray's Lane, Ardmore, Montg. Co., Pa.

The 1930 Census has a Joseph Fleming, age 24, single, working as a butler for a family named Murray in Lower Merion, Pa.  It says he was born England & parents born England and immigrated in 1927.  Thought it might be a possibility, even if the mother's birth place was a bit off.

Hi Nickgc and Shellyesq,

Thanks again for your help.  It all seems to be good.

The Arlington burial info gives same dates as Texas social security dates for Ursula.  1930 census and draft card for Danks is spot on.

Also spot on is the d of b for George on the draft card.  And the 1930 census for Joseph is probably correct too; he may not have known his mother was born in Scotland.

That leaves Archibald who I suspect may have died in Barrow, and Janet who emmigrated to PA via NY in 1923.  So I still need to keep looking for william and Isabella.

Can't imagine why Ursula F was in UK in 1956 unless her mother had come back for some reason and died here and Ursula was her to visit her or for her funeral.  Or maybe for her father's funeral, though I think he died in 1946.  Oh well, that's family history!

Thanks again.  It was a great help.  Thank goodness I wasn't looking for John and Mary Smith!!

 :) :) :)
