grieves family
« on: Thursday 16 April 09 22:07 BST (UK) »
hi, have posted before for the grieves family, brothers william john b 1827, robert b 1829, john b 1832 and james b 1826.

william, robert and john  were found in 1841 census church langton, leicestershire, living with lucy warner b 1781 and her children william b 1811 and daughter ann b 1818

james was found in 1841 census at high street oakham rutland living with rice davies, ann davies and their son john davies.

william john b 1827 geddington northamptonshire england died in australia in 1878, received death certificate and shows father as james grieves, occupation gardener, mother alice warner, assuming she is sister in law to lucy warner in 1841 census.

would it be possible to find parents marriage entry and death entry.

thank you

Hello,
don't know if this is your family or any help at all but Family Search has a christening for Ann Grieves 23 September 1824 Weekley Northants- parents James Grieves and Alice.
best wishes

Just a thought, but Lucy Warner is also old enough to be the childrens maternal grandmother.

Hi Mo,
just thinking that myself! There are lots of Warners b Glooston Leics. in 1851 but none that apply here I don't think - not that we would know anyway  ::)
Also Rice Davies is born Glloston according to 1851 but his wife is a Robinson according to marriage.
still we'll keep digging!

I don't want to go on a wild goose chase but Family Search has an Alice Warner christened 1794 Cranoe Leicestershire but these are submissions.
Cranoe is just by Glooston on map and only 16 miles from Geddington.
However, there are no real connections showing.  :(

I notice from one of your other threads that James in 1881 is born 'Weedly' - could this really be Weekley as Ann's christening?

Just found this for Ann (sorry it's not what you are really after but I think she is the same family)

Free BMD marriage - December quarter 1839 Kettering - possible spouses Robert Garfield and Ann Grieves

1841 HO107; Piece 797; Book: 10;  Folio: 4; Page: 3; Line: 17

Geddington
Robt Garfield 22 yrs butcher
Abb 17 yrs
William 1 yr

In 1851 Ann  is a widow and a dressmaker with a child James 6 yrs. She is born Weekly.

In 1891 James has a Grace A Grieves (has been dittoed under the surname) single 70 yrs living on own means born Cranoe visiting with the family.
1891 RG12; Piece: 1230; Folio 45; Page 24

She is with the family in 1871 as a governess but born Hunts.

On 1881 she is with Ann Ashby also born Cranoe - going back in censuses and with Family Search Henry Ashby married Ann 'Failby' Warner (there are variations on this middle name in censuses).

I'm quite confused now but obviously there is a WARNER connection somewhere here  ;D

hello and thank you to all for replies for the warner family, must admit, getting a bit confused myself, so i am assuming that

Ann Grieves 23 September 1824 Weekley Northants- parents James Grieves and Alice is a sibling to grieves brothers

Alice Warner christened 1794 Cranoe Leicestershire - possible mother of grieves siblings- date of birth 1794 makes lucy more her sister

if lucy warner is their maternal grandmother does that mean that william b 1818 and ann b 1818 are siblings of alice warner,

thank you all once again and looking forward to more replies.

if lucy warner is their maternal grandmother does that mean that william b 1818 and ann b 1818 are siblings of alice warner,

Ages above 15 were supposed to be rounded down to the nearest 0 or 5 on the 1841 census so Lucy could well have been 64 (born 1776ish) on the 1841 census.   And that is if she was telling the truth!
