The church by Cow Lane was called St Paul's which has also been demolished. The chapel still stands as a book shop I think. This is by the Regent St. side of Edgeware Rd.

There were two Engineers Arms. The older one (1854 to 1872) was in Emlyn Square now the site of the mechanics institute. The well know one was in Wellington St. by the old canal. The old post office by the Tricentre now being redevelopment stood on the site. The upper part was used as a unlicensed Hotel called the Golden spur, but a directory shows it as Elm Lodge. In 1919 the premised had changed to a house. Bought by Swindon Council in 1960 and demolished as part of the redevelopment of the town centre.

            I would be most pleased to have the source of the directory that shows the Golden Spur becoming Elm Lodge. Elm Lodge from 1915 - 1919 was a commercial hotel. T

I have got a copy of a Postcard dated 1907 - written by my Grandad who had moved from Blakeney Gloucestershire to Morley Street, Swindon - house now demolished.

Took the original postcard + others a few years back to a Collector in Swindon.

The copy Postcard -

Red Cow Inn : selling Clinch's beer  and Witney Ales and Dunville's Whiskey from various signs on the Inn - has chappie on a 'cart' with a horse + four other people and an older man in a long apron standing in the doorway.
