Hannah Conway b 1823, Galway
« on: Saturday 18 April 09 17:24 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm having pronblems with some new family members from Ireland. ;D ;D

Hannah Conway b, 1823, Galway, Ireland  married Thomas Morley in 1849, Leeds.

In the 1871 census  Hannah and Thomas appear with their three children; Mary b 1850, James b 1853, and Ellen b 1855,all born Leeds. Thomas Morley  b.1831 (Hannah's husband)  is also from Ireland...but it doesn't state where exactly.
RG10/4555 Folio 100 Page 14

Also in 1871 there is a Mary  Conway b 1849, Ireland unm lodging with them....This,I believe is a niece of Hannah because she appears in 1851 as dau of Patrick Conway,b 1821, Ireland.
HO107/2319 Folio 454 Page 19

In 1881 Hannah Morley, now a widow is living with her married son, James Morley.
RG11/4520 Folio 152 Page 12

My problem....I can't find either Thomas or Hannah Morley, or any of their children (Mary b 1850, Leeds, James b 1853, Leeds and Ellen b 1855, Leeds) in either the 1851 or 1861 census...or Mary Conway either.

Are there censuses for Ireland for these years? Although I doubt that they went back and forth btn the births of their kids.??

And where should I start to search for records as to the parents and siblings of Hannah Conway? I haven't found anything on family search.

Hope someone can help, best wishes, Gillian

the oldest surviving complete Irish census returns is for 1901.

Some parish record transcripts are available on the pay-per-view site of the Irish Family History Foundation ( www.irish-roots.ie )
- it costs €5 to view a record, but the index search is free once you register.

Hi Gillian

Saw your posting re Conway & as I also have Conways from Galway in my family tree thought I'd try to help.
I think you'll find that the entry on the 1861 Census has been transcribed incorrectly & the family are listed as "MARLEY".

Good luck with the research

Doreen

Thank you so much Doreen for helping me...thanks to your hint I found them, and then found them  in the 1851 census also, Hannah is down as Honor but I think it's them because they have dau. Maryb. 1850 and also a Margaret Conway as a lodger, whom I imagine could be Hannah's sister.

Thanks again. Gillian

Doreen, in your research on the Conways, do you have a Henrietta Conway b 1813/15?

I have a Henrietta b 1815, Ireland,  marrying a John Thomas. My research for the Conways and Morleys is to try and find evidence to confirm that Henrietta's maiden name was Conway and that she was sister to Hannah Conway b 1823.

On Henrietta's daughter's marriage certificate the witnesses were James Morley and Emma Clark...James b 1852  being the son of Hannah Conway  and Thomas Morley.

If you know anything about this family I'd love to share...or if I'm on the wrong track please tell me ;D

Thanks Gillian. :D

Hi Gillian

Unfortunately I have no info. on my Conways except that my gt grandmother was Kate (Catherine) Louisa Conway born in Galway date & place unknown as yet.  On her marriage cert. in 1873 she is recorded as a minor (not sure what the age of majority was in Ireland at that time), her father is given as Richard, occupation farmer.  She was married in Carrick on Suir District, Waterford.  I believe her mother was Spanish.

If I find anything else out that could tie in with your Conways I will let you know.
Doreen

Hi treeworm, I’m guessing you may have already found some info about Henrietta Conway. She was my great great great grandmother, and one of her sons, William Thomas, was my great great grandfather. I’m new to this site, but feel free to get in touch! Mim
