1871 and what did Elizabeth and Dorothy do? - Completed
« on: Sunday 19 April 09 04:34 BST (UK) »
Elizabeth Small and her daughter Dorothy were both employed in 1871. I would really love to know what they did. I thought at first it was an 'H' but a check of the rest of the page shows it certainly isn't a, 'H'. Other thoughts are Stay maker, but the second occupation doesn't look like that either. Any suggestions?

Hi Sandra,

both look like Stay Maker to me. They made stays (corsets).
A common occupation in those days as ladies always wore Stays.
