Latin translation needed please!

Hi folks

I've got this baptismal entry from the parish of Tarnowo in Poland.  Can someone translate it properly for me please?  I'm not sure which name applies to the father and which to the son!!

I think the gist of it is:

Raymundus (Raymond) Boinski is the priest.
Joannis Kabacinski is the child's father.
The child is named Laurentium (Laurence?).
The lawful wife is Anna.
Not sure about the numbers - dob / date of baptism?
Godparents are Andreas Wituki and Marianna Suritalanka, maiden of the estate of Tarnowo.

Ok, I think I've worked this out!  The first three entries at the top of the page (not shown) are for the baptisms of girls, and their names are the second names listed, so in the entry posted above Joannis is the father and Laurence is the son.

Unless anyone wants to tell me otherwise......

Agree entirely with your translation, Gaie; as for dob and baptism date, 'peperit' is 'bore/gave birth to' on the 28th July (at 6 a.m.?) and the baptism occurs the following day, 29th, I think. 'Ambo' means both witnesses.

I can't make out all of it, but I think it says in the middle

...quem illi peperit Uxor sua legitima Anna [abbreviation - perhaps [die?] 28^ta hora sexta matutina...

Which I take to mean

...whom{i.e Laurence} of him {i.e. Joannes} his legitimate wife Anna gave birth 28^th in the sixth hour of the morning...

If I'm right, they didn't waste much time getting Laurence baptised - perhaps he was not a very strong baby?

Now I know the "form" of these entries (and they are virtually all the same) it makes it much easier and quicker to search the records.

Hello,

The date of birth looks to me to be the 25th and not the 28th as suggested.

The manner in which this entry is written strikes me that the priest was writing from his own point of view, e.g. infantem, filium, nonminatum.  The inflectional ending of 'em' and 'um' is the accusative case indicating that the priest saw the infant son of Joannis and that he, the priest, baptised the son, Laurence, with that name.

I find it helpful to try to remember the case endings as 'es' or 'us' (the nominative case) as being an indication that a person is taking part in some action and 'em' or 'um'  (the accusative) as being an indication that something is being done to some person.

As regards the witnesses the phrase "ambo de earom ville..." I would translate to intend as meaning 'both of the same town of...'

Hope this helps.  I'm not a Latin scholar but I use it frequently.
