10th Manchester Regiment, WW1
« on: Wednesday 22 April 09 00:11 BST (UK) »
Hey, does anybody know if there are records of the 10th Manchester regiments troops anywhere? Does the regiment have its own records somewhere? Im looking to find details about my great great grandad James William Kelly who i know was in the regiment in 1915. Anybody any ideas?
Thanks, Luke

Hi Luke

Have you seen this site - http://www../indexold.html? This site will also tell you something about what the battalion did in WW1 - http://www.1914-1918.net/mancs.htm. You need to look at both the 1/10th and 2/10th Battalions.

Ancestry have published all surviving pension and service records for the Ks, apart from a few miss-files which will be found once they complete the rest of the records.

If you haven't got his record, have you got his medal index card? If not, how do you know that he was in the 10th Bn?

You can also look for him on the 1918 electoral roll. Some councils had an Absent Voters List, which records regiment and number. Even a normal roll might have some information.

Ken

I dont as yet have any info on his time in the military except for his sons birth certificate of 1915 which lists his profession as:
Private 10th Manchester Territorial Regiment

Do you have an address when his son was born? If it was in Ardwick/Blackley/Gorton/Humle or Salford let me know as i have access to the 1918 Absent voters list which could ( if he is on it) give his regiment number which might get you started.

Migky  ;)

Hi Luke,

I am glad to see you have found him.  I was just about to say that I thought I had found his pensions records and his address was Oldham.
