Could all the people who have replied to this query please advise if they are subscribers to Tiscali Broadband.

It is beginning to look like only the people who can access familysearch.org have other ISP's.

Sorry, but I didn't get a chance to read all the replies to your thread so if the following has been suggested already, my apologies.....

Fixing “Website Can’t Be Found” and other Site Error Messages

More than likely you have trouble with accessing quite a few sites.....particularly getting the message "website can't be found" among a few other error messages. Try the following and it should solve your problem.

1. Go to START.
2. Click on CONTROL PANEL.
3. Click on INTERNET OPTIONS.
4. Change NUMBER OF DAYS TO KEEP IN HISTORY to “0” and click APPLY
5. A box appears with tabs labeled across the top. Click on ADVANCED.
6. Scroll down to the sub-heading SECURITY.
7. Make sure the following has check marks next to it:
Use USE SSL 2.0, USE SSL 3.0 and USE TLS 1.0.
8. Also make sure you check off EMPTY TEMPORARY INTERNET FILE WHEN BROWSER IS CLOSED.

More than likely USE TLS 1.0 is not checked of and it should be. This will give you the error messages, as well as a few others, that will prevent you from viewing web sites and the error you are getting. Make sure you empty your cookies cache as well as temporary internet files once in a while, too, as this slows down your computer and these folders tend to "remember" the errors and may continue to bring them up until the folders are emptied.

Thank you Judy for your suggestions on how to fix our problem.

USE TLS 1.0 was not checked but the other two were.

Sorry to say that it has not made any difference at all as I still get "Page cannot be displayed".

Neither Tiscali or the LDS have responded to my mail as yet.

This has become quite a hot topic.

Hello to all you interested people.

I have made some progress today by talking on the phone to a very helpful young lady at Tiscali.

We have established that the fault does not lie with Tiscali as she was able to enter the site straightaway.

I can now access the site through the IP address as for some reason the URL is not recognized. She suggested that I contact Microsoft as some adjustment should be made to the DNS server.

In the meantime if you enter http://204.9.225.200/ you will be back in business.

Not an ideal situation I know but better than nothing for the time being.

Well Done Poiroit,

Tried the link as you suggested, and hey presto.....back in business.

To make life easier for the time being. once I had accessed the site I just copied the link into my favourites, and let it overwrite the original.

How about contacting Microsoft, in case we have the same problem with another site in the future?

Cheers,

Derek

Poirot, you are a star!

Not ideal, as you say, but at least we can access it now.
