IRISH KELLYs
« on: Tuesday 28 April 09 01:42 BST (UK) »
I have another problem with my ancestry - Kellys from Ireland!  I only know that my great grandmother's name was Catherine Kelly, born in Australia in1862 to James Kelly and Mary Kelly.  James notifies that he was born in Ireland (no other info) to parents William Kelly and Bridget Kenny.  Mary Kelly gives her parents as same.  They were both born around 1837 in Ireland.  The were both illiterate and I'm thinking that Mary's parents were not the same as James but who knows?

Any way to track these people down?  Thanks in advance.

Hi Sharyn,

I thnk you are going to have problems researching this family. There are a few possibilities where more clues might be found but they are long shots. The christian names of descendents and also counties in Ireland where other Irish families, living in the area where your Kellys settled in Australia, were born.
It might be worth while having a look at the parish priests who were in the same area in Australia. In some cases they were from the same parish as many members of their congregation.

Thanks Christopher, I'll do a bit of digging when I return home in June.
