I was interested in your enquiry regarding  Gaughans of Co Mayo. This name features on my family tree as a Phil Gaughan married one of the daughters of my g/grandfather, she was Brigid McDonnell. The descendants live in Corclough East about a mile E of Belmullet.
Don't know if this is of any help.

entrant, not too sure of Gaughans yet as only just started searching, but I know that some of the 14 or 15 children of Phelim and Mary emigrated-like a lot of them did- to America and Canada in the 1940's and 50's. I also know that Gaughan is a very common name in that part of Ireland. If and when I get anymore info I will post it here

Hi

Welcome to Rootschat -

You may like to have a look at this site - the 1901 census.

Just select county Mayo and the surname and you should see lots of entries.

Hope this helps

Good Luck

Hi Entrant,
Have just recently started out on rootschat. I believe Philip Gaughan of Corclough East was one of my great great grandfathers. His daughter Maria married my great grandfather Henry Gaughan and they lived in the townland of Knocknalina, out at the Broadhaven Bay pier. My grandmother lives on this land today as she married a son of Henry and Maria.
