Advice needed
« on: Monday 21 February 05 14:04 GMT (UK) »
A couple of my dads female relatives were sent to Canada during the war (not really sure which one  but presume the second).

Any ideas as to how I would start to trace them.

Hi Durham,
Is it possible your missing relatives were sent as "Home Children"?
Canada has an archival site for Home Children with a data base search, it is

http://www.collectionscanada.ca/02/020110_e.html

If you know their names then this may help.  Also if they are not Home Children then you may be able to search around the Archives Canada site for other information re those children.  If all else fails email a contact in the Canada Archives and find out if they have a data base for children sent here during war time.
Those relatives could be still alive and you may run into a road block with information being withheld for 75 or so years, but if you do contact the Archives possibly special arrangements could be made.
Good Luck,
Ted
Surnames I am Interested in:
Dolan, Banks, Chambers, Bemi, Hills, Crowe

Thanks Ted.

I hadn't heard of the 'Home children' until yesterday.  I will do a bit more research here to get more details on them and then follow your advice.

Many thanks for your help.
