Hay Family in 1800's
« on: Friday 08 May 09 16:11 BST (UK) »
Have to modify my message guys but thanks for your info.

Any info on the Hay family in the 1800,s who moved to Scotland?  James Hay married a Sarah Kinney (daughter of Arthur and Christina Kinney (nee Osborne) in Ireland - not sure  which part.  From an 1851 census in Scotland, the family were living there and 2 of the children - James born circa 1833 and John born circa 1836, and perhaps a William born circa 1837 had all been born in Ireland.  The father James was deceased according to the census.

I am looking for the marriage details of James and Sarah and also any information on his/her own families.

Appreciate any information.

1800s is a bit vague- you really need to give us a better idea of dates so that we can try to help you. Are you sure they came from Co. Antrim?- if not I'll move this post to Ireland-General for you.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

In 1901 they are still there but no children left at home, again I can't access the image.

Hi,
having lived in Portmoak some years ago the area in Kinross is KILMAGADWOOD. It lies on the hillside above the village of Scotlandwell. It is in Scotland and not Co. Antrim.

Hello

Just rechecked it's with an 'H' on the index so thanks for correction.

Gives me a chance to say that I left out John Hay's birth Place on 1881 Census which was Portmoak,  Kinrossshire .

Eventually found some more onfo on the Rev George Hay. He and his wife (Elizabeth Thompson) had 4 children. His son John died in India.
I have then the names of his 4 children (John, Margaret (my gg grandmother),Fanny and Sarah).

George Hay was one of 20 children (inculding stillbirths) and was one of 4 who made it into adulthood.
If anybody has any further info on the Hay family it would be much appreciated.
