.....Geo. Henderson, surgeon, Chirnside.....??
Chirnside is a village in the Scottish Borders  ??

I think you are right having looked at it again and again :)

In 1861 Scottish census there is a George Henderson living in the civil parish of Chirnside occupation, Gent Bacto Of Medican , whatever that means, never come across that description before.

Added: 1851 Census George described as Surgeon, Licentiate Of The Royal College Of Surgeons, Edinburgh
Booth, Hornsby, Northumberland & Durham
Jackson, Northumberland & Durham
Douthwaite, N Yorks & Durham
Geldard, N Yorks
Ward, Cheshire & W Yorks
Swallow, Boid, W Yorks
Kirby, Lowe, Studholme, Geary, Emery, Baldock

Hi,

I see all the hard work has been done but, for what it's worth, I believe it is 'concussion' with a long 's' followed by a short 's'

Fracture of the skull
and concussion of the
brain caused by deceas-
ed being dashed violent-
ly against a stone wall
by a horse while engaged
in breaking it in. deceas-
ed expired in about an
hour after accident as
certified by Geo. Henderson
Surgeon, Chirnside who saw
deceased shortly before he
died on 5th March 1859 and
was present when he died.

Baskervill - Devon, Foss - Hants, Gentry - Essex, Metherell - Devon, Partridge - Essex/London, Press - Norfolk/London, Stone - Surrey/Sussex, Stuttle - Essex/London, Wheate - Middlesex/Essex/Coventry/Oxfordshire/Staffs, Gibson - Essex, Wyatt - Essex/Kent

Wonderful stuff! Thank you all for your contributions, its appreciated! Especially to confirm George/Chirnside as a surgeon.

I didn't know sp did transcriptions, will bear that in mind for the future.

Thanks again!

Have you thought to try and find George on the 1861 census?

As a surgeon he might be a member of the Royal College or a graduate of Edinburgh Medical School.
