Help needed to find GRO number
« on: Wednesday 23 February 05 03:44 GMT (UK) »
I was completing a request to purchase a marriage certificate from 1863 but even though I have the names, date, parish, county etc, I must have the GRO number which the IGI record from LDS does not provide.  Any clues on how to quickly find the reference number would be appreciated.

I apologize if this is a repetitive post.

Hi Tarnee!

Details are:

John Silo marriage to Ellen Mc Grath  14 June 1863
Saint Nicholas, Liverpool, Lancashire, England

Both are listed in a following census as being from County Antrim Ireland.

That's all I have - is that enough?

Hi Surlie,

To find the GRO I would recommend you try either the freeBMD website (free but incomplete)  (http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/) or the 1837online (payperview) .( http://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/) If you know both the names and the exact date and parish it should be fairly easy on either site.
On the freeBMD website you can use both names to search.....but I have a feeling that 1863 may be one year that is incomplete so far (there is a graph on the site telling you how complete each year is).
On 1837 online you need to try both names and then check that they have the same reference number.

Or if you know the exact place of the wedding (church or reg. office or etc) you could also contact the registry office local to where the wedding took place and order a cert. from them.

Otherwsie if you post the details on rootschat you may also find that someone can help find the ref. number

Hope this is some help.
