Fogarty and Ryan of Nenagh.
« on: Saturday 23 May 09 21:29 BST (UK) »
My great-grandfather was Patrick Fogarty born 1858 son of Denis Fogarty and Anne Hayes.

Patrick Fogarty married Mary Ryan born 1861 daughter of Philip Ryan and Margaret Ryan. The marriage took place in Roscrea Church in 1886.

Patrick and Mary (Ryan) Fogarty had four children,
  MaryAnne 1886,
 Ellen 1887,
 Denis 1889
Philip 1890.

Mary died in 1891 and Patrick Fogarty married another Mary whose name I am not sure of, Carton or Cartron or Curtin or something similar.

Patrick Fogarty and his second wife had the following children. I don't know all the dates.

Margaret Mary  (Peggy) baptised 1893 in Nenagh.
Patrick John  (Pakie)  baptised 1895
Catherine (Kitty)  baptised 1896
Sara baptised 1898
Bridget Mary baptised 1900
Susie
Jack
Christopher  baptised 1905
Tess
Nicholas
Larry.

Patrick Fogarty's eldest child MaryAnne was my grandmother but I know nothing of her brothers and sisters.

Does any reader know what became of them?  There must be some of their descendants living in or around Nenagh and I would love to get in touch with any of them.

Hello Seanmac

Thanks for your message.  Sorry for the delay in my reply.  I have been away and just got home this evening.
I had a quick look at the Fogarty entries and there are quite a few. I don't know if I would be brave enough to intrude on any of them, but I will think about it overnight. There is a good chance that a couple of them could be connected to my family.

Regards,
Eve

Hello Eve, just found your thread.
I am researching my Ryan and Curtain lines, and have found a link to the Fogarty name.
Below I outline my Curtain and Fogarty connections.

Curtain:
I have very little of Curtain. what I do have is Mary Ann Curtain (My GG grandmother), b. 1820 (or 1814), Tipperary co.
Mary arrived in Melbourne, Australia prior to her wedding in Feb 1844. She wed William Dwyer, also native of Tipperary Co.
Mary's parents are John Curtain b. 1800 and Mary Hannan b. 1782.
I have no other details.

Fogarty:
John Mathias Fogarty, b. 17998, married 18?? to Margaret Bowen. I believe both were born in Drom, Tipperary, but could be wrong.

I know they had two children, both born in Drom.
Margaret Fogarty b. 1832 and Annie Fogarty b. 1843.
Margaret and Annie migrated to Melbourne Australia, sometime prior to 1855 marriage of Margaret.
Margaret married a Roderick Ryan (another brickwall) in 1855.
Annie married Michael Hoare in 1868, then married John Joseph Rosney in 1888. Annie built the Auburn Hotel, 85 Auburn Rd, Hawthorn East, Melbourne.
I hope my research is correct as I have found Margaret and Annie had two other sisters, Mary and Ellen.

Any assistance is extremely helpful and grateful.

Hello Switcha,
I know it is frustrating but I can't connect any of your names and dates to mine. I have lots of names like Mary, Margaret, Ellen etc, and the same names were in almost every family in Ireland at that time.
In one of my previous posts in Rootschat I have given the names of my Fogarty relatives.
Good luck in your research
Eve
